To your first point about the college notifying students when they have done something wrong. I would agree with you if the student in question was paying 100% of their college tuition and expenses on their own with no assistance from Mom and Dad.
If Mom and Dad are funding a student's education either in cash or by co-signing a loan then of course they should be notified of their kids screw ups. Most parents don't want to fund there kids drinking habit. You are at school to get an education not to party. Some parents would disagree but then again some parents don't mind their kids living in their basement until their 35 either..

I've been where you are. I graduated in 98'.. the last good year to party at BSC. Looking back I'm surprised they didn't clamp down drinking sooner. Ask around about the near riot that was caused at the Hill. State police from 5 or 6 areas had to come in and tear gas everyone. Too much drinking. Shear luck no one was injured or killed. What about the stabbing at Bogart's (Our Place) a few years ago? Too much drinking. The girl from Dedham who killed one kid and injured several others? Too much drinking.
