Head Coach Jim Simoneau saw improvement in the men this season, and thinks the consistency of bringing up a young team, with only one upperclassman, will keep them in high contention for a number of seasons.
"The Men's team lowered their team scoring by nine points from last season. This team will remain together for a number of years to come and should continue to contend each and every year."
The real improvement, however, can be seen in the Women's team, who lowered their team scoring by 28 points from last season in the meet where every single runner scored her personal best time on the Westfield course.
Simoneau said, "While the Women's team was not favored to win, they certainly made the meet a lot closer than many expected, losing to Westfield 30 - 44 points."
Lagasse looks forward to even more improvement from the team, her eyes fixed on a first place MASCAC trophy in the future.
Lagasse said, "This season we all worked hard, but there are definitely areas that we could improve upon. Basically, that is what I'm looking forward to about next year: improvement. Next year, most of the girls on our team will be seniors and I think we are all excited to see what our team can do together while those girls are at their peak. This year really helped set the standard high for next year. All the good things we accomplished this year will make it easier for us to come in on day one with confidence and a good attitude and carry it throughout the season until we can bring home a first place team MASCAC trophy."
Taft is also optimistic about the men being able to outperform after a year's worth of improvement.
"Next season if we stay healthy we will run away with the meet, hands down," Taft said.
While both teams are on a high to conclude MASCAC competition, they still have two more meets to go before they can focus on next season.
The Alliance Championships will occur at Keene this Saturday, October 31 and the NCAA New England Championships is set to take place on Saturday, November 14 hosted by Southern Maine.
"We are looking for strong performances from both teams to conclude their seasons on a high note," said Coach Simoneau.
