It is April and minus the random snowfall, the nice weather is finally here. No more snow boots and giant winter jackets. Toss the earmuffs aside and get ready for one of the most creative and stylish spring seasons in a long time.
Just as gym clothes with a stylish edge are big for guys this season, the same goes for women. Designers like Donna Karan, Jean Paul Gaultier and Vera Wang all showed very chic forms of everyday gym wear. Sleek, sleeveless hoodies in metallics like silver and gold looked great paired with tailored pants or a pair of jogging shorts. These are great alternatives to the big, bulky hoodies that most people wear now. Those do nothing for your figure.

Leggings are still a big trend in fashion and Marni had some awesome leggings paired with tunics and tennis skirts. This added to the more casual feel of high fashion dressing that has taken place this season. Very stylish, tailored track suits looked right at home on the runways of Y-3 in a range of colors from black and white all the way to orange. Instead of choosing those dingy old sweats to go to class in, you can now be comfortable and stylish at the same time.

From the casual look of gym wear to a more romantic feel, another trend opposite of the gym wear was the pure femininity designers exhibited on their runways. Light and airy, the looks that went down some of the runways were true works of art. Dresses in tulle, silk, and chiffon floated along with the greatest of ease. This is a helpful distraction from some of the more avante garde trends that are also present this season.

From girly drop-waist dresses at Marc Jacobs to pure glamour at Valentino, if you love to own your femininity then there are some great options for you this season. Stefano Pilati's work at Yves St. Laurent is impeccable and this spring he turned up the volume on femininity. Silk organza dresses in deep violet will make you melt at the first sight of them. A simple white halter dress at Badgley Mischka was elegant and wearable without all of the fuss of heavy embroidery and embellishment.

As usual, it would not be fashion without some crazy trends to throw in among the wearable ones. This season designers traveled beyond our planet. The thought of the future and space was present in many collections with Balenciaga being the most apparent.

The entire collection reads as though it is fit for a fashionable space goddess. There is color and texture, and the play with proportion and volume makes for a great effect. The best part is the metallic gold leggings. At first sight they seem gaudy and completely unwearable but they are actually a perfect fashion accessory. You could easily just wear those and a clean white shirt and look like a fashionista wise beyond her years.

With so many options and trends being available this season you can create your own individual style. Beyond the three trends I spoke of here are many more that may fit your personality much better. What works on someone else may not work on you but the best part of being exposed to the ever evolving fashion scene is that there is so much to choose from, that you never have to feel like there is nothing out there for you. Fashion is currently undergoing some exciting changes with the emergence of fresh, young designers with a new perspective on dressing. The next few years should be an exciting time for fashion and the consumer.
