With a close, impressive victory over Salem State this past week, the Men's basketball team's season is shaping into a good one. Both senior scoring machine , Roland Millien, and must have behind the arch sophomore , Corey Conner, the Bears sit on top of the MASCAC standings a little over half way through the season along with conference rivals Salem State and Westfield State.

After a week that included the Men's basketball team going 2-0 and also averaging 15 pts and 15 rebounds a game, Roland Millien was named MASCAC's Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Reacting to this Millien stated humbly "I wouldn't be the player of the week if it wasn't for my teammates.

They make me better and I (have) got love for those guys like no other. Player of the week is not anything unless you win; if you don't than its just words to me."

Though this title was notable, Millien's abilities on the court have shown to be more impressive than that on paper. Millien's attitude and play on the court thus far this season has resembled the enthusiasm of Kevin Garnett and on the offensive glass, a little bit of the former NBA big man Dennis Rodman.

After losing one of the team's most notable captains this past season, Tom Cuddihy, the team has found a new offensive leader in Roland, who has become more "vocal" and has gained better vision on the court this season. "I don't think one person can fill Cuddihy's shoes but we have found many people to fill each spot" Millien marked. Taking the initiative as the team's captain, Millien leads the team this year in both offensive and defensive rebounds, free throws made, and overall scoring. The Men's team, on track to passing last year's record of 13-13, has found itself at an 11-5 record nearly halfway through the season due the team's positive changes from last year.

"I think we are more experienced and with experience comes trust so I think we are trusting each other a lot more, you don't try to do things individually. You win as a team you lose as a team" stated Millien.

With the team's impressive start so far, Millien has credited the Men's team's success, along with his, to communication on and off the court. Recently their strengths have proven to be working where, at Salem State, Bridgewater State held close and were able to defeat Salem State on their home court for the first time in 10 years.

Millien's efforts, which included a 17 point night, along with Bridgewater's senior forward Stace Garrick's impressive 14 point effort, provided Bridgewater with enough points to surpass conference rival Salem State in one of the most remarkable games of the season thus far.

With the ball rolling in the right direction, the Bridgewater's Men's basketball team is looking more impressive every single game they play with Roland Millien in the captain's spot.

With a handful of games left in the season, the team has got their sights set on conference foe, Westfield state on January 31st in what looks like to be a deciding game in the MASCAC conference.

Millien in regards to the Bears goal this season, "The number one goal is to win the MASCAC and get to the NCAA tournament" and with some wins down the stretch this goal, including the game against Westfield State, seems more and more obtainable.
