The New England Championships are right around the corner for the Bridgewater State College swim team. The women will compete 2/15 - 2/17 and the men will compete the following weekend, 2/22 - 2/24. Over the course of the season, the men and women have worked to their full potential pushing their limits and now they get to prove how hard they have worked. Not only have they trained here at Bridgewater, but they have trained in Fort Lauderdale Florida at the Hall of Fame pool. In the past two years, the Bridgewater State College women's swim team has taken the highest ranking spots in the team's history. Last year the team placed fifth out of 30 teams and the year before that, they placed third. Junior Sarah Fuller, sophomore Bryn Morwick, and freshman Lindsey Hatton, are three of the top point scorers heading to the New England Championships. The NCAA allows each team to bring a maximum number of 18 men and 18 women to the competition. The Bridgewater State College swim team has 11 men and 14 women, all have qualified and are going to the New England Championships.
"With our extreme depth and great attitude, I know we're going to do outstanding at New England's and push to reach our goal of being one of the top three teams," said Carly Lindahl. One of the most important aspects of these competitions is to make sure the team's attitudes stay high, which has been expressed all season and will make the swimmers shine over the weekend.
Senior Jennifer Jackson is the women's team diver who has already broken her previously held record. Winning eight out of 12 dual meets, the women swimmers are preparing themselves for an competitive weekend.
The men have also had a great season and are preparing for their championship's the weekend after the women. Even with a small number of members they have proven to be a dedicated and forceful team.
Leading the team this year is captain Mauer Desai who is taking the team to the next level. A few of the swimmers attending All New England's is sophomore Brendan Sullivan, Sam Herman, and senior Alex Mulcahy who is also the team manager.
"This season has been an exceptionally good one," Mulcahy said. "We have had some great additions to the team and with that some great races and meets."
The upcoming New England's Championships should prove to be a great wrap up to our season. We have trained extremely hard all season and are ready to step up and prove it, and for me it will be a great end to my swimming career at Bridgewater State College."
With a couple more weeks of training ahead of them the men are preparing fully for their competition.
